HOPE GPA Calculator
Your Georgia HOPE GPA counts only core courses from grades 9โ12, every attempt included. Grades are A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0 with no plus or minus. B, C, D and F get 0.5 added in AP, IB and Dual Enrollment core courses. It is a credit-weighted average, cut (not rounded) to two decimals. HOPE needs 3.0; Zell Miller needs 3.7.
This is an estimate. The official HOPE GPA is calculated by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) from your school's transcript data. Check yours in your GAfutures account under My High School HOPE GPA.
HOPE GPA estimator
Add every core course from grades 9โ12, including repeats. Plus and minus grades count as the base letter (B- = B).
How HOPE GPA differs from your school GPA
| Rule | Typical school GPA | HOPE GPA |
|---|---|---|
| Courses | Often every class | Core only: English (course numbers starting 23), math (27), science (26 or 40), social studies (45), foreign language (60โ64), certain fourth-science courses, and GaDOE-approved advanced fine arts from the class of 2027 |
| Plus and minus | Often used (B- = 2.7) | Ignored (B- = 3.0) |
| Weighting | School's own, often Honors and AP | School weighting removed; +0.5 for B, C, D or F in AP, IB and degree-level Dual Enrollment core courses; A stays 4.0 |
| Honors | Often weighted | Not weighted |
| Repeated courses | Varies by school | Every attempt counts |
| Rounding | Varies | None: truncated, shown to two decimals |
Official worked example

| GSE Algebra I | B | 3 |
| Dual Enrollment Ethnic Studies | B | 3 + 0.5 = 3.5 |
Total: 9 points รท 3 credits = 3.00.

Frequently asked questions
Is HOPE GPA different from my GPA?
Usually, yes. Your school GPA may include electives, plus/minus grades and its own weighting. The HOPE GPA uses only core courses, a plain A=4 to F=0 scale, a 0.5 boost for B through F in AP, IB and Dual Enrollment core courses, and no rounding.
Do plus/minus grades count?
No. HOPE uses the letter only, so a B- and a B+ both count as 3.0, and an A- counts as 4.0. Enter the grade as it appears on your transcript and the estimator uses the base letter.
Are honors classes weighted?
No. Honors courses count like regular courses in the HOPE GPA. Only AP, IB and degree-level Dual Enrollment core courses get the 0.5 added to a B, C, D or F.
What GPA do I need for Zell Miller?
A 3.7 HOPE GPA, at least four academic rigor credits, and an SAT score of 1200 or the equivalent ACT composite that GSFC posts each year, along with graduating from an eligible high school.
Where do I see my official HOPE GPA?
Log in to your GAfutures account and open My High School HOPE GPA. GSFC calculates it from the transcript data your high school sends, so it is the number that counts.
