GPA scale lookup

Try:

Type a letter grade (B+), a percent (87) or a 4.0-scale GPA (3.3).

On the standard US scale an A is 4.0, a B is 3.0, a C is 2.0, a D is 1.0 and an F is 0.0, with plus and minus grades in between (A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3). Weighted scales add 0.5 for Honors and 1.0 for AP or IB, which gives a 5.0 maximum.

Worked example

Frequently asked questions

What is the standard GPA scale?

A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0 and F = 0.0, with pluses and minuses at 0.3 or 0.4 intervals in between.

What percent is an A?

Usually 93 to 100, with an A- at 90 to 92. Some schools use 90 as the cutoff for any A, so check your grading policy.

What is a 5.0 scale?

A weighted scale where an A in an AP, IB or dual-enrollment class is worth 5.0 and an A in an Honors class is worth 4.5.

Is an A+ 4.0 or 4.33?

Most schools cap an A+ at 4.0. A few colleges use 4.33. This chart uses 4.0.

Do all schools use these cutoffs?

No. Some use a 10-point scale (90/80/70/60) without plus and minus, or different bonuses for weighted classes. The chart shows the most common version.

How do I convert my percent to GPA?

Find your percent in the chart, read the unweighted value, then add the Honors or AP bonus if the class was weighted.
