Unweighted GPA Calculator

Unweighted GPA calculator

Type each grade as a letter (B+) or a percent (87). Course levels are ignored, so the result is the plain 4.0-scale GPA that colleges compare.

Enter grades and credits to see your GPA.

An unweighted GPA gives every class the same 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0) no matter how hard the course is. Type your grades as letters or percents, and the calculator averages them by credit.

Worked example

Grades: 92% in a 1-credit class, B+ in a 1-credit class, and 78% in a 0.5-credit class.

Unweighted GPA: (3.7 + 3.3 + 2.3 × 0.5) ÷ 2.5 = 3.26.

Frequently asked questions

What is an unweighted GPA?

A GPA on the standard 4.0 scale that ignores course difficulty. It is the number most colleges use to compare students from different schools.

How do I convert my weighted GPA to unweighted?

Go back to your individual grades and recalculate on the 4.0 scale. A weighted number alone cannot be converted exactly, because it does not say which classes were weighted.

How do I convert percent grades?

Find the letter for each percent (93–96 is an A, 90–92 an A-, and so on), then use its 4.0 value. Cutoffs vary a little between schools.

Do colleges prefer weighted or unweighted?

Many colleges recompute an unweighted or their own GPA and then judge your course rigor separately. Check each school's admissions page.

Is an A+ worth more than 4.0?

On most unweighted scales no, an A+ is 4.0. A few schools give 4.33, which the standard GPA calculator lets you switch on.

Are P, NP and W counted?

No. Those grades earn no points and their credits are left out.
