Midterm Grade Calculator

Midterm grade calculator

Weights are percent of the final grade and should add up to 100. Leave scores blank for work not graded yet.

Your current grade is the weighted average of the categories graded so far, divided by the weight graded so far. To find what you need on the rest, subtract the weighted points you have from your goal × 100 and divide by the weight that remains.

Worked example

Homework is 20% of the grade (average 90%), the midterm is 30% (80%) and the final is 50% (not taken yet).

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my grade at midterm?

For each graded category, multiply its average by its weight, add those up, and divide by the total weight graded so far. Ungraded categories are left out until you have scores.

How do I find what I need on the final?

Needed = (goal × 100 − weighted points earned so far) ÷ weight still remaining. If the answer is over 100%, the goal is not reachable without extra credit.

What does "drop lowest" do?

Many teachers drop your lowest quiz or homework score. Check the box and the calculator removes the lowest score in that category before averaging.

What if my weights do not add up to 100?

The current grade still works, but the score needed assumes a 100% total. Fix the weights to match your syllabus for an accurate answer.

Does this work for points-based classes?

Yes. Enter each score as a percent (points earned ÷ points possible × 100) and give each category its share of the total points as its weight.
