Colleges That Accept a 2.0 GPA
With a 2.0 GPA, your strongest options are open-admission colleges (most community colleges and many public and online schools) and four-year schools that accept 85% or more of applicants. Many of these review your whole application, so a rising grade trend, a solid essay and test scores (where used) can help. No list can guarantee admission.

Can I get into college with a 2.0 GPA?
Yes. Thousands of US colleges admit students with a 2.0. Community colleges are usually open admission, and many regional public universities and private colleges accept most of the students who apply.
What a 2.0 limits is choice at selective schools and access to merit scholarships. It does not block you from starting college.
Is community college the best start with a 2.0?
For many students it is. Community college is low cost, open admission, and lets you build a fresh college GPA. Many states have transfer agreements that guarantee admission to a public university once you finish an associate degree or hit a set college GPA, often 2.0 to 2.5.
If you would rather start at a four-year school, the finder shows schools that accept most applicants. Look at graduation rate, not just acceptance rate, because a school you finish is worth more than one you start.
Higher-graduation-rate schools to look at with a 2.0
Open-admission schools and schools accepting at least 85% of applicants, with 1,000+ undergraduates, largest first. 1,887 schools nationwide meet the admission criteria.

How do I make my application stronger with a 2.0?
Explain any rough patch in a short, honest note if the application allows it. Show improvement: a better senior year or summer course helps. Ask for a recommendation from a teacher who saw you grow.
Some schools offer conditional or provisional admission with study-skills courses in the first term. Ask the admissions office whether that is available.
What happens to my GPA once I start college?
Your college GPA starts fresh. A strong first year matters far more for transfers, scholarships and majors than your high school 2.0 does. Use the target GPA calculator to plan the grades you need.
Frequently asked questions
What colleges accept a 2.0 GPA?
Open-admission schools, including most community colleges, accept a high school diploma or equivalent. Many four-year schools with acceptance rates of 85% or higher also admit students with GPAs around 2.0. Use the finder to filter by state and cost.
Can I get into a four-year university with a 2.0?
Often yes, at schools that admit most applicants. Selective universities are a stretch. Starting at a community college and transferring is a reliable path into many four-year schools.
Can I get financial aid with a 2.0 GPA?
Federal aid such as Pell Grants is based on financial need, not GPA, when you start. Once enrolled you must keep satisfactory academic progress. Merit scholarships usually need a higher GPA.
Does open admission mean every program accepts me?
No. The school admits you, but programs such as nursing or engineering may have their own GPA or course requirements. Check the program page.
Is the acceptance rate the chance I will get in?
No. It is the share of all applicants admitted, which includes students with higher and lower GPAs. Treat it as a rough guide only.
