About GPA Climb
Last updated: October 29, 2026
GPA Climb is a free set of GPA and grade calculators, plus plain-language guides, for students in the United States. It helps you work out your current GPA, see what grades you need to reach a goal, and find colleges that fit your record.
Who it is for
- High school students tracking a weighted or unweighted GPA for college applications.
- College students planning a semester, raising a cumulative GPA, or checking a major GPA.
- Parents, counselors, and anyone who wants to check the math behind a GPA.
Who runs it
GPA Climb is run independently. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any school, college, university, testing company, or government agency. The site is supported by advertising, and ads do not influence our calculators or guides.
How the calculators work
- Grade scale: we use the standard 4.0 scale with plus and minus values: A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, and so on down to F = 0. An A+ counts as 4.0 by default, and some tools let you set it to 4.33.
- Credit weighting: GPA is a credit-weighted average. Each grade's points are multiplied by the class credits, added up, and divided by total credits.
- Weighted GPA: for high school weighted GPA we use the common bonuses of +0.5 for Honors and +1.0 for AP, IB, and dual enrollment classes. You can change these where your school uses different values.
- Pass/fail and withdrawals: P, NP, and W grades do not count toward GPA in our calculators.
Schools differ. Some use a different scale, cap weighted GPA, or handle repeats and pass/fail differently. Every result on GPA Climb is an estimate. Your school's official records always take priority.

Data sources
College information, such as admission rates, cost, graduation rates, and enrollment, comes from the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard. Our current dataset uses the 2024–25 Scorecard data, retrieved 2026-10-29. These figures are school-wide averages reported by the schools and may be out of date, so confirm details with each college before you apply.
